Understanding the printing-costing workflow

A costing application is useful when each input, calculation and output has a clear place. The KN Enterprises demonstration shows one way to connect those steps.

Begin with the job

Quantity, sheet dimensions, GSM, pieces per print sheet and wastage are job inputs. Rates and quantities are editable in the demonstration. They are illustrative examples, not published KN Enterprises prices.

Keep the cost components visible

The application separates material, printing, coatings and finishing. Changing an input rebuilds the itemised breakdown. This lets a user inspect the components behind the total rather than relying on an unexplained final figure.

Distinguish cost from selling price

The demo's percentage control adds a markup to cost. Its calculation is:

Selling total = total cost × (1 + markup ÷ 100)

For a fictional cost of Rs 1,000 and a 20% markup, the selling total is Rs 1,200. A markup on cost is different from a gross-margin percentage on selling price. Confirm the business's pricing method before implementing either.

Separate internal and customer views

The internal costing sheet shows the cost breakdown. The customer invoice view uses the selling price and leaves out the internal cost and profit breakdown. Browser print controls let the user review the appropriate document before saving or printing.

Test the rules that matter

Agree on rounding, wastage, sheet sizes, printing-rate units and exceptions with the business. Check representative jobs against approved workings. A working demo shows behaviour; it does not replace a review of a company's costing policy.
